As most of you have heard, Mailee had to get surgery on her small left finger. She injured it in basketball. We figured it was just jammed, but when the swelling didn't go down after 2 weeks I took her in to get it x-rayed. During these 2 weeks when we thought it was jammed, Mailee played in basketball games and practices as well as gymnastics and a gymnastics meet. Needless to say, we felt awful that we made her be tough through all her activities.
She has been tough through her surgery and recovery so far as well. Since it was broken on the joint surgery was a must for her to be able to close her hand properly or function correctly. They ended up putting a screw in the bone to hold it together. They had to find a smaller screw in the dental department because her bone was so small and as you can see in the x-ray, it is still too long for her finger. This may be removed at a later date.
Meanwhile, she has hardly had any pain medication and is doing very well. She may get a permanent cast in a week or so. When it has healed more she will have to go through therapy to get her function back to normal. All this for a pinky!

Ouch!
Oh, Melanie I'm so sorry. It's so hard to see your babies in pain. Don't beat yourself up about not knowing it was broken, though. She's one tough cookie, my new hero! Hoping she heals quick!

Mailee, I hope you heal quickly. You'll have to put the picture of the screw in your journal. Good luck with therpy. You'll do great.
I love you.
